Posted by bruno_blvd Traffic Camera Distances Hello to all forum members ,I am new to this forum and love it, never new you could do so much to a gps. I added Garmin GPX Proximity Alert for a Garmin POI File to my 265wt Garmin, works good but I would like to change the alert distance now it is set for a 100 ft. Can I install the same GPX Proximity Alert file again and change it to a farther distance. Thank You. |
Posted by roadrider01 Traffic Camera Distances In a word, yes. Any file you install after the initial file installation will overwrite the previous one. Hope this helps. |

Posted by roadrider01 Traffic Camera Distances The road speed at a given intersection would determine the best alert distance but I know of no practical way to individually set the 1000's of locations available. At highway speed you would want more warning than at a slower city speed. Garmin sets the warning to be triggered at I believe at 400 meters for POI's loaded that trigger their software. I would think 300 to 400 meters would be a good average. I generally use 400 meters or 1200 feet as a rule. Perhaps someone else has different opinions they would like to share... |
Posted by johmazz2006 Re: Traffic Camera Distances Yep roadrider, I use 300 mtr distance for nearly all, can be a bit of a nuisance occasionally but the only way of finding out what suits the individual is to re-download the files with different distances or learn how to edit the file manually. |
Posted by dennis.dunbar Re: Traffic Camera Distances I like my redlight and camera alerts to be set at 500M and everything else at 100M. If everyting is set to high the alert messages can get annoying. |
