Posted by bp787 Nuvi 780 - Any way to display common POI while driving? I have a Nuvi 780. Overall, I'm really liking it, but I have one major issue that is making me think of selling it. I can't seem to figure out how to get certain POIs to display on the 3D map while driving. What I want to be able to do, is to display specific POI categories: Gas, ATM, food, rest areas while driving. My previous GPS did this. I could see upcoming POIs (only the type I wanted to see) as I got close to them. This is really handy for me as I am on frequent business trips. It's annoying to have to search through a list of gas stations, when I really want to just see whats coming up at the exit ahead. After doing a lot of reading, it seems that I may not be able to do this. I have tried zooming in as close as possible, I have tried custom POIs (which sorta does the trick). I really just need to know if there's some way to just select the few POI types and have them displayed on the map while driving. Is this possible? Thanks! |
Posted by LMOF Answer I have been looking for information about that "issue", but I did not find any positive answer to that, but I do belive that is a safety option for us drivers to dont be distract by the GPS, its a shame because I would like to see the POIS, but well, you can always search when you want really something by the categories.. best Regards |
Posted by bernienchris POI Alerts Can be done and its not too hard. you will have to re-load the POI though. I have (so far) found it best to remove all POI off your GPS each time you do an update, so I keep all my POI in 1 folder on my PC with all the revisions I've done etc. When you go to install your POI again using POI Loader, use the 'manual' option. You will then be given the option of setting alerts and at what distance. I would use caution here as I reckon if you set too many it will drive you nuts with alerts going all the time. Cheers, :) |

If you have the same menus as me, do the following: 1. go into the Tools menu 2. select Settings 3. select Map 4. scroll down and there will be a button labeled "Show POI's" 5. select Show POI's and you will have the ability to choose to view none, some or all of the POI's in the following categories: Food & Drink Lodging Fuel Shopping Attractions Recreation Entertainment Transit Hospitals Auto Services Community Bank/ATM Others Hope this helps address your needs :) hfa8592 |
