Posted by theprez Car Charger discharges battery My 18 month old Tom Tom One recently went dead even when plugged into my car charger. I then borrowed my son's 6 month old Tom Tom and it went dead while plugged into my car lighter socket. Is the problem with my lighter socket or our gps's? |

Posted by stebbing To the prez Does the light come on the charger when plugged in to lighter? If not that may be the problem. I guess it wouldn't be that easy. |

Posted by lisacross Rust? Also check that the battery connection from charger to machine are not rusted or anything, maybe sandpaper will work... |

Since it charges itself sometimes, this means that there is a faulty contact in the plug or socket. Play around a bit with the plug and see if you can find power. Then stop right there and move again until it does not have power anymore. If all happens you got some problem down to the connection that are often very easy to solve. For instance, it could be dust or some rust on the pins or simply you need to bend back in the right position the contact: it happens when the plug is old or used regularly |

Posted by meadow.mail Socket Is your socket in the car a cigarette lighter. If it is then the socket may well be too big for the charger and may lose connection. Newer cars are fitted with slightly smaller 12v sockets |

Posted by fredhindle Charger Is the TomTom showing that it is charging when you have the charger connected? I find with some chargers that they have to be rotated in the socket to get a good contact. Cheers, |
