Speed limit warning

Can someone tell me how I get my Nuvi 710 to show the speed limits on the roads?

same question

I also ask the same question.
I have installed the speed limit alert, 100, 70, 80, but it doesn't work.

Anybody can tell us how to install it properly?

Speed limit alerts

I also thought there was a way to alert me of my speed being a preset amount above the posted limit with my Garmin 885T.

I like the fact that it displays it in the lower left corner. But in unfamiliar areas it seems speed limits change for no reason to an unreasonably low speed like 55 mph to 30 mph for only 200' and then return for now discernable reason back to 55 mph. I would love to get a 1000' warning of a speed limit drop so I can be made aware of it without having to watch for that sometimes obscured solitary sign.

I would like it to do an audible alert like (Tone Tone) "you are over posted limit" or "Speed reduction ahead" 30 mph.

Possibly a selectable option of a speed alert of an over the posted limit POI @ 3 mph, 5 mph, 8 mph 10 mph etc. Then 100', 500', 1000' distance selections.

Can this be done? Is it already available for USA maps? I do understand that the liabilities are likely why Garmin did not put this feature in. I only hope someone can find a way to get a POI to function as a speed alert.

While the above functionalities are pie in the sky any type of speed alert POI would be greatly appreciated.

Speed Limit Audio Alerts

Garmin states that it does not have any GPS device that alerts you, audibly, if you are going over the speed limit. A number of its GPSs will show the posted speed limit on most major roads (eg in Australia, USA, Europe etc). On my Garmin Nuvi 3790T the posted speed limit is indicated in the lower right hand corner and beside that it shows the speed I am travelling. When my speed exceeds the posted limit my travelling speed indicator changes colour from black to red. Although this is not an audible alert it is still very useful.

speed limit warnings

A reminder to all on east coast of Australia, school holidays are here and fines double and points loss are doubled as well.
Suggest that the cruise control be used every where and watch what you are doing and take notice of speed signs and not totally rely on a GPS to do everything for you. Being observant may even get you through the Xmas holiday season without hurt or killed.
Happy and Safe Xmas to all.

Garmin 3790T

I to have just purchased a 3790T and what you describe is correct, your speed turns red when you exceed the posted limit by 1 km/h (un adjustable) but at some point you actually have to take your eyes off the GPS to see where you are driving. This is where an audible speed alert comes in very handy. I borrowed a Navman My60 last week from a friend before I decided on the Garmin and it has an adjustable audible warning for 5 or 10km/h not sure if it went higher. Had I known this feature or similar was not available it would have been a lost sale for Garmin… Hope this massive shortcoming can be overcome before an unnoticed speed zone change results in a donation to the MAN… The TomTom 910 (very antiquated now) that the Garmin replaced also had an adjustable audible/visible speed warning but set at a specific speed eg 125km/h, that was better than nothing…
