Posted by hdorpema Speed camera POIs Hi, just joined and downloaded some Garmin Point of interest from your most impressive collection - thanks! I know speed camera POIs have been around for a while and I can see some real benefits in them, as not only do these allow you to avoid paying speeding tickets, but they also warn of dangerous spots (assuming speed cameras have not just been placed as cash cows  ). However, just a word of warning - some national legislations take a very dim view of speed camera POIs stored on a satnav device. Germany, for example, allows police to impound devices on which (German?) speed camera POIs are stored, and I think Switzerland acts similarly. The justification is obstruction of justice. Other nations take a more liberal view. It would be nice if we could set up a list of states and their attitudes to speed camera POIs - anyone with relevant info on other nations? I assume this is at state level in the US - so information divided by state would be handy. Consider this post as my contribution to the list. |

Might be a good idea to turn off the gps if you get pulled over .... just to be safe... |

One solution, is to keep a backup sd card hidden away in your car, and if you should get pulled over just hit the poi delete button. then reload your poi's once the cost is clear. :D |

Posted by cyongt ... I just know that Germany does not allow Speed Camera information stored in GPS Unit, how strange it is! But how does the police know that the speed camera is stored in the unit? |

Posted by Knut43 Speed camera POIs The police is clever enough to check the GPS units. They are more or less good trained. There are actual open cases at court about that problem. Mobile phones with speed camera apps are illegal and you will get an penalty for the use. |

Posted by johmazz2006 Speed camera poi's No problem in Australia with having speed cameras locations in a GPS, and in NSW they actually have 3 warning signs on roadside prior to arriving at the camera location. |
