Posted by tim.foster Removing Maps from Nuvi 770 Does anyone know how I remove maps from my Nuvi 770? I have third party maps of Mexico. I bought them for my old Nuvi and they work fine. Now that I've got rid of that and bought a 770 I want to use them on there, only to discover that the company Bici Maps want another $50 to use the maps on this device. I removed them from the old gps before I sold it, and so now I have a useless product!!! When I run my 770, it always says "cannot unlock maps". The maps are unlocked in MapSource. I've tried downloading from the device to mapsource but that still leaves copies on the device and I still have the cannot unlock problem. |

Hi, I don't have a map image file that seems to relate to the maps of Mexico. In the Garmin folder I have two IMG files, gmapbmap.img and gmapsupp.img. Which of these files would be the Mexico maps? I don't want to remove the Europe or US maps that came with it. |

Posted by martynghjones Re: Removing Maps from Nuvi 770 gmapbmap.img is the Base image, so that will be the Europe/US map. gmapsupp.img is a user installed additional map. You can have two additional maps, one in the main memory and one on an SD card, so you can have three maps in total. The safest way to experiment is to rename the files and not delete them, then you can see if you have the correct one. Martyn. |
