Does anyone know if you can turn on a North indicator on the map screen similar to a Nuvi 300? It is on my father-in-laws nuvi 300 & I think it is a good idea.

I don't know what you mean exactly when you refer to a 'north indicator' but it sounds like it would be a nice feature in 3D or track up modes.

To go into 'north up' mode go to:

tools -> settings -> map ->map view and select the mode you want there.

If there is another setting for a 'north indicator' that you find out about, please post where it can be found within the unit.

Don't forget that if you have the north up function on the direction arrow or vehicle will travel across the screen in your true direction (N,S, E,W)
I find the track up function better. That's personal though

Yup, no "compass needle" feature. I tried North up map display and that got too confusing. Afterall we all interact with our world in "track Up "Mode.

North Indicator

After years of using paper maps on the road or in the bush I have come to prefer the 'north up' mode. In cases where you cannot determine your direction of travel from the sun (cloudy, night time, confused, etc) I can see at a glance which way I'm heading. There is no "right way". It is a matter of personal preference.
