Hi all

Hi all..I'm a newbie here..just one question please....I'm in Ireland and I think we're a bit behind in the sat nav stakes but it is unusual for a garmin 250w to display road names and place names sometimes and other times not at all on the same route.
I just recently got one and I'm finding this happens ..is it just a weak satellite signal?

Re: Hi all

I dont think that can be a weak signal, as GPS works everywhere in the world and the signal strength would be fairly constant, you may need to be in the open to get a better line of sight to the satellite but that wouldnt affect the display of road names. It sounds like the level of mapping detail is insufficient for your location and you can take whis up with the supplier of the map data.

Have you checked you have the latest software and maps?

Hi, you might want to check the Auto zoom on your software setup, sometime if it zooms out it will not show you as much detail as when it is zoomed in, try to disbale the auto zoom function and then zoom in that might fix your problem.

I concur with the Ireland issue. I live in New York (1 hour north of NYC) and when I turn on my Garmin Nuvi 265WT in my bedroom it has no signal & automatically alerts me. BUT the window is right in front of my desk (3' away) and there is no GPS or any other signal to the Garmin :( So I walk out the door onto the deck (4' to the left of the window that is 3' in front of me) and the Garmin works perfectly. This sucks a*s in the winter time  it's cold out there....

C764, probably because satelites hang around high in the sky, so the need to see through the roof rather than the window.
