Posted by ojaypuppy Expensive Australian Maps Can someone please tell me why the Australian maps seem to be so much more expensive than those for other countries. Particularly countries that have a lot more roads to a population density! |

Posted by purvi51 Re: Australian Maps I guess because of the sheer size of Australia. Its a massive and expensive task for any GPS mapping company to map such a vast country / continent and it's road / rail infrastructure. I believe WhereIs (Sensis) is the only company who actually maps and digitized the Australian maps - all other navigation companies e.g. Tomtom, Navman, Mio etc. are using this Sensis map with their presentation software. This monopoly of Sensis may add the cost. |

Would love to know what percentage the massive import duty is on the map updates, as they can / are purchased directly from Garmin in USA. Incidently, the maps used are produced by Sensis Australia and sold to Garmin for use in Australian mapping. |

Posted by greendj24 $$ I know what you mean. Sometimes it seems to be actually cheaper to buy an entire new GPS system rather than just update the maps. I am pretty sure when you purchase your new product, it comes with one free update |

Posted by johmazz2006 mapping Nearly all Navman and Garmin GPS units sold in Australia now come with FREE "lifetime" updates, which come out every 4 months. |
