Posted by Johnstra Buying a GPS Can anyone help me purchasing a gps that i want to use in my car and for camping. I am looking at either a Navman S90i or a Tom Tom Go720. Can you suggest the best out of these models,eg ease of use, downloading up to date maps etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated Regards Ross |

Posted by jassythedog S90i I would not recommend the S90i due to rebooting and screen overlaying issues. Navman have their head buried in the sand and not admitting that there is a problem, with no admission it means no fix. |

Posted by luckyrita Buying a GPS unit Hi, I own a Kenwood double din unit, model number DNX7340BT and I recommend this unit. I find the navigation system which runs from Garmin very user friendly and the maps recalculate quite fast. I've owned a Navman and Tom Tom previously and I find that the in car unit is definitely more powerful than the usual handheld units. Hope this helps. |
Posted by craigmckenziesa Buying a gps You may actually want to consider buying a cellphone with a built in gps recevier as this does not use the networks to locate your position and secondly, Nokia for example, provides free map updates unlike most gps units like Tomtom/Garmin that you have to pay for . If the cellphone is unable to calculate your postion due to tall buidings then use the a-gps and pay a small amount of data charges then turn of the data function and use built in gps.that way you get both of best worlds with a device that you can drive with and walk with. |
