Garmlin Drive 50-LM custom POI no sound

Ok so I have a Garmin Drive 50-LM and I downloaded the speed cameras from this site.

So I downloaded all of the files and the POIs are showing up on the GPS I can go in and look at them and they are properly installed
I can even look at the *.gpi files on the actual drive itself in the \Drive 50\Internal Storage\POI

Now I want to make it clear that I did NOT just copy these files over onto the drive. I used the Garmin POI Loader to be able to
do this.

And yes I have the sox.exe in the same directory as the the POI Loader as well.

And yes, the file names are identical and the 3 files are all in the same directory the *.csv file the *.bmp file and the *.wav file

Now I heard that some devices do not support the mp3 format any longer so that is why I did not use the MP3 file.

I mean I can see the POI as well when I get near the point the icon is coming up but I don't hear the warning sound.

All the files are the same name as well they are identical this should be working. Having the sox.exe in the same directory as the POI
loader and doing everything that I did but still I am not getting the warning sound. I can see that there is a camera there and
the image is on my map but no sound.

I have all the files I should need to get this working I don't understand why I am not getting the sound. And yes I checked the extension as well and there is no double extension or anything like that I know I read that this can also be an issue but I checked the file name extensions and that isn't the case here.

I also have "Hide extensions for known file types" unchecked so it forces it to show all extensions on files. So I would see any double extension.

This is in the File Explorer Options

I have followed all of the information that I could find about this on this site and other sites so far. I can't seem to find a solution for it.

Anyone have any more ideas?

Thanks,

Re: Garmlin Drive 50-LM custom POI no sound

Hi
Garmin audio alerts may work with MP3. I would try adding MP3 files to check if it works any better.
Also, can you open and listen these audio files? The audio file(s) may be corrupted. Just click on the WAV or MP3 file to open it and check if it works.
Cheers

Yes I can open the files and listen to them using VLC with no problem.

Now from what I read the newer devices don't support MP3 but some of the older ones do.

And if it was just a corrupted file I have the file downloaded multiple times for all the speed zones as well and it is all the same sound
so they would all be corrupted I doubt it. And the fact that I can open the file and listen to the WAV file ok that means they are not corrupted.

And this is where I was reading that you need to use a WAV file:
"The mp3 is the problem. Garmin dropped mp3 support quite a while ago. You need to WAV files and the SOX file program."

Dunno what to say I am finding conflicting information now.

Solved!

Ok so I started looking around and saw that the wav files had to be saved in a certain format.

"When using the conversion save file as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono."

1. So it has to be a PCM wav file
2. Has to be 44,100 KHZ
3. Must be 16 Bit Mono

If something isn't perfect the Garmin devices don't like it.

So I ran them through Audacity: https://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/viewtopic.php?t=5453

So I have uploaded all of my files in a zip file with the directory structure intact.

If anyone else is running a Garmin Drive 50-LM that is having this issue please feel free to download this zip file the sound files
have also been amplified a bit because I found the other ones to be a bit too quiet so it is loud now but not to the point that it clips or anything.

The only things you will want to do now is download the updated *.cvs files and over write the ones that are in here because they will be outdated and the cvs files that I downloaded are for Canada and you may be in another country anyways.

Download the latest BMP and the cvs file and the WAV files for your country

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ONLY HAS BEEN TESTED WITH THE GARMIN Drive 50-LM
GPS device. It may work for other ones and it may not make a backup using Garmin Express before attempting any of this!

If the team that runs gps-data-team.com want to grab a copy of them and put the wav and bmp files on your site then go ahead.

I am putting these out there in case some one else is having the same problem I was and save them a few grey hairs.

And yes it appears that you need to use the WAV file but it has to be in a certain format mentioned above or it won't
work. I downloaded the files from this site but I guess they were not quite correct because the Garmin Drive 50-LM was
having an issue with them. Once I ran them though Audacity and saved them in the correct format they seem to be working.

I ran a few simulations on my GPS
Settings, Navigation and then I checked GPS Simulator

And now I am hearing the custom POI sounds!

Hope this solution works for others as well and enjoy the files.

Hi Jamie
Our Redlight and Speed Camera audio files are already published as WAV PCM, 44100kHz, 16bit Mono files.
You can download them in our POI Zone: https://poi.gps-data-team.com/
Is there any problem with our WAV audio alert files? I can easily change any audio file setting to match these requirements.
Thanks

WAV file format

I know, that is w here I downloaded it from, Mark, and sometime is off with the
format of the file that Garmin wasn't accepting it. Once I ran it though Audacity
and saved it again as a PCM wav at 44,100 Khz and mono, then it worked.

So something isn't quite right with your format.
