Tomtom is the best. Who else would provide such a good add-on viruses free of charge.

Guess I'm way late finding this page, but:

I tried the link in the original post, to use an online tool to scan for malware in my PC and TomTom. No joy!

If the link did go to an online tool back in 2007, January when it was posted, it doesn't now. It goes to Symantec page where you can download and install Norton to scan your devices. An online scan tool shouldn't need to be downloaded or installed on the device.

I've had problems with Norton installations before, and had a real problem trying to uninstall them. Not going to do this again.

This online scanner does not install the regular Norton software to your PC. It installs a temporary browser plugin and scans your system. I used it many times with no issues. I also use Microsoft Security Essentials. Norton plugin is much easier to remove than Microsoft software.
