This is a common problem that requires some computer Knowledge. I spent a lot of time researching a solution. The F20 Desktop Software and Service pack on the CD's from navman do not work, as you have seen. The solution is to download and install this: Service Pack.Be sure your f20 is connected to the USB cable and turned on displaying the USB Connection screen. Leave it on during the entire process.Once downloaded, run this self extracting file and let it install automatically. After it is installed and ran.....you will see the same error again of failure to connect. At this point you must reinstall the driver manually. Right click on your "My Computer icon, Select Devices, then properties on the navman. You should see a yellow "?" next to a statement "Unknown Device" in the USB devices. Click on the "Reinstall Driver" and select a specific location or the Have Disk button. The USB driver is now located in C:\program files\Navman\f20servicepack\USB directory. You should get a button that now says Okay at the bottom, click onto it and allow the MS program to update the drivers. You should see the device screen change and say "This device is operating properly". You can then close the windows and run the F20 desktop program. It should connect then.Another way to install the driver, is click on the "Start" button in the lower left side (on the toolbar at the bottom of your screen), Select Settings, Control Panel, then Add/Remove Hardware. In the program select "Search for New Hardware" (While the f20 is plugged in and turned on). The automatic search for a better driver does not usually work. But, click on Have Disk or search a specific location and go to the Program Files, Navman, F20 Service Pack, USB Directory. You should then see the Navman device drivers displayed. Select the f20 driver and click "Okay". This will also install the driver and it should begin communicating with the computer.I found Navman (unless they get money) has a "Customer No Service" department that is as useless as tits on a boar hog. The above steps will correct your problems with the f20. Good luck on finding updated maps that are more than 2-3 years old. Navman claims they are no more than 10-12 months old.....Right! Question

Would like to update my post, the service pack 2 file on the navman site is now 7.99mb and no longer 1.2mb (they must have had the wrong file up over the weekend) and it now works, also I assume if I buy the connectivity software this includes the 2006 smartst desktop software.

I have the same problem,

Updated everything that needs doing, but still will not connect.

And if you try to contact Navman, there website email service always seems to be faulty.

Any more help would be most helpfull.

I followed the instructions posted at the head of this thread but to no avail..My unit still does not connect to the Navman site and I had to reset the the unit..As for Navmans support it is poor...I dont mind paying for a product or service but this mob want way over the odds and I see myself buying another brand in the near future..

Navman should change their name to Naffman me thinks..

Hi there,

All you need to is
1/ Take it apart,
2/ Take out the sd card inside,
3/ Copy all what is on the sd card to the desktop,
4/ Format sdcard,
5/ Copy back all the files from desktop to sd card,
6/ Put it back together, and way you go, it will connect and update.

All the best.

Also the charging point has dropped into the unit. I have removed the back cover and I cannot see or locate where the so called charging cable in the unit runs, I bought it off e bay and think the guy has messed about with it. Can anyone help please?

I've had my F20 since 2006 with 2004 USA maps. They can be transferred directly onto the SD card, and now in 2015 I use a mini SD with a SDHC adapter. Same old problem with useless Navman support, even when willing to pay for map upgrades, they ignore US customers 100% and never reply. The last map cost was $149 USD, and it is much cheaper to go with a replacement GPS from Garmin and lifetime FREE map upgrades. Oddly enough the Navman is still working after 10 years nearly, never a problem beyond replacing the battery once during that time. Just useless to get any new maps or support anywhere. For those of you with the driver issues and software not working, the only fix is to manually install the driver in the Navman folder. In ten years, SP2 is the only change. But Navman is constant on being useless to anyone after the sale. I don't know how they stay in business, unless it's a front for selling other things. Evil or Very Mad

Post Help with Navman F20 GPS

How can I make corrections in street addresses stored on my Navman F20? Navman's tech support cannot help because Navman stopped selling the unit long ago. Also, is there a way to delete some stored addresses from my Navman F20 unit? Can I do all these by connecting the unit to a PC through a USB port? Thanks. Doc Thakur
