I frequently travel back and forth from the boarder. What is the best way to set up POI's to alternate between USA (proximity in miles) and Canada proximity in Km)?
I kind of like having all the data loaded for both countries.
Any advice? |

I have the data loaded for both countries in separate sub-folders inside one main folder. When I downloaded them, I chose meters for the Canadian proximity alerts and feet for the American ones. Then you can go into your menu on the unit and switch it to display in miles or kilometers depending which country you are in.
Hope this helps.

thanks...
So I assume you have a main folder with Can and USA and just upload the main... and overwrite everything...
Also... does it automatically adjust as you cross the line or do you have to change settings manually...

roadrider01, when you load, do you load them seperately, I though you had to load the entire main folder... so I am not sure how you are chosing meters for the Canadian proximity alerts and feet for the American ones.

|

I think I have finally figured out a partial solution:
Problem is when you download, the proximity and speed information is already in the file, but you can solve half the equation by adjusting the distance.... pick what you will use most... miles/feet for USA and km/meters for canada and adjust the warnings accordingly as when you use the poi loader on upload, whatever you set will be the measurements for the device... regardless of miles or km... so a speed alert for usa downloaded @50mph will actually be uploaded at 50km in either express or manual mode if your default poi loaded is set to km. Which means you will start getting notified at 31.1 mph when you cross the border.
So I think to get around this... do the conversion before you download or atleast take it into account when you download and have the option of setting distance and or speed... and when you upload, use manual and reconfigure and upload accordingly... ie: 80km/h = 50mph so any USA speed warnings need to be set before upload. likewise for Canadian warnings. So to be clear... upload the 50mph alert @80 if Canadian.
This way when you cross the boarder, and change your display settings from km to miles or miles to km... all your alerts automatically adjuest as well..

| Would it be possible to use two SD cards and store your US POI on one and Canadian on the other?

| Since I live in Canada, I convert US miles to Canadian km. This is especially important for Speed Limit Camera POI.
