Is it possible to create a route in Google Maps to get the driving directions and then load this to your Garmin? I have a Nuvi 250W. |

That unit won't support a "route". So no.

You can use Google Earth and Google Maps to create your own POI file with POI Manager for Garmin.
Save POI file to your Garmin and use it to navigate to any saved point.

| I recently used Maps to create a "Favorite" on my Garmin Nuvi 200. It wouldn't create a route but my Garmin was having issues getting the correct address I wanted but was able to utilize the "Favorite" from Google Maps.

1.Have your Garmin connected to computer before you start.
2.Create your route. Google maps > get directions > etc..
3.Click on 'send' (top R/H corner)
4. Select GPS then Garmin (from the drop down). Put any name for this route at the top. Click 'send'
It will take you to the Garmin web site.
Garmin web site will check if your gadget is connected to the computer (few seconds) and will give you big orange button to press to send this route to your unit.
Your route should appear as a .gpx file or by given name in favourites folder
The Communicator plugin is available here.
Good luck

I have tried the above and created a route but I cannot get the "send to Garmin" option, only send to email. My Garmin is connected and the computer can see the folders on the Garmin. Obviously I have omitted a vital stage but I dont know what.
Further to above. I can select one POI (petrol station etc) and I do get the send to gps option but still unable to send route to gps.
Any further help please.

Looks like Google stuffed this thing up. I contacted Garmin and that's what they say.
They have/had an agreement with Google to provide this type of service but it doesn't work any more.
If you select a single point on the map it still works and you can send it to Garmin, Garmin direct upload, Navigon, Nokia, Navman, TomTom, etc. Look for the navigation bar above the map: Street view, Save to GPS, Print map... Use a [Save to GPS] option to select your GPS brand...

| I have done this using Garmin Mapsource which can display Google earth maps and then uploaded to the device. You need a legal copy of mapsource though.

| This option would be really useful to me, but I seem to only have an e-mail option. No drop down list or anything like that. Any ideas? I installed the Garmin communicator and the test page says its working properly.
