Can any one tell me what the difference is between the 4 Garmin POI file types, i.e. when you go to download it gives you the 4 types, gpx, Garmin poi, etc.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 260w, and I'm trying to work out which is the best file type to use. |

Hi
Believe or not, the choice is entirely yours.
Some Garmin users are happy with our basic POI's with truncated descriptions.
Real Garmin fans and registered users use Custom POI with extended information or POIs with proximity alert, phone dial, etc.
You can load POI's directly to your favorites with Garmin direct upload. I believe you do not want McDonald's or Starbucks loaded to your favorites or as POI's with proximity alert. It'll drive you mad. Proximity alerts are advised for any must-have POI file, e.g. redlight or speed camera POI files.
It's quite easy to add/change/remove installed POI's.
Cheers

| I think the main difference between the GPX format and all the other POI formats is that you can attach various audio files and more details to the POI in the gpx format, where as in the csv, etc. format, you only get a list of all the POI without any audio attachments, etc.

Hi, hope someone can help me here. I have a Nuvi 260w and before I updated the traffic & camera POI's the unit would 'talk' and tell me when I was approaching a red-light or speed camera. Now it only indicates this as an audible beep alert. How can I re-program to actally speak out the alert?
Thanks
Tony

| You have to download the sox.exe file and put it into your Garmin folder. Download the audio POI alerts, put into same folder as poi's. When you use poi loader it will ask to run sox.exe. Click run and then the audio will work with the poi's.

I have the same model number and use the gpx file. Works fine.
