There seems to be duplication of files
I understand where there are combined speed and red light camera files, but it seems to get all the files, you have to use the following files
Speed_Cameras_au.CSV
Speed_Camera.CSV
Speed_Red_Camera.CSV
Some of these provide locations close to each other (obviously one or in some cases, are not quite on the mark) so you get multiple alerts. Some appear on one file but not the other.
One example is the camera on the corner of the Tuggeranong Parkway and Hindmarsh Drive in Canberra - driving through there gave me three different alerts for the one camera because they were all about 15 metres apart.
Which is the "right one" and aside from combing all three, what's the answer?? |

Hi
I agree that it is not nice to have repeated camera alerts. As you know, our registered users can add camera locations and other interesting POI locations. Unfortunately, some users list some POI locations more than once. We clean our database and remove obvious duplicates, however, we relay on a community spirit. Your knowledge is important to us. All duplicated camera locations should be reported (delete) and we will remove them ASAP.
In addition, you should download CUSTOMERS ONLY marked files. You do not need to install free camera POI files and you will not be alerted twice for any camera location that is listed in our free database.

i'm having a bit of difficulty understanding this myself.
for example you have
Speed Cameras
Speed and Red Light Cameras
Mobile Speed Cameras
Fixed Speed Cameras
what exactly goes into what category? are both "mobile" and "fixed" speed cameras fit into the "speed cameras" category? it seems a bit confusing..
i was also puzzled by
Red Light Cameras
Fixed Red Cameras
in my mind, the definition of a red light camera means it has to be fixed? are there any other kind? so whats the difference between the two categories??
are you able to make it somewhat clearer about what files we need to get all the POI's - without getting overlaps?
thanks!

Hi
You should download CUSTOMERS ONLY marked camera files and you will not get overlaps. Our free camera POI files are provided for users to test our database before they decide to register for full access to our speed camera POI database.

I have downloaded the customer road safety files, however, nothing or very little was in the file. After checking out the free POI's I have noticed that they have a lot more available.
Is this a technical issue or for some other reason.

To add,
You will probly notice that were you see the discription of the location of the POI there are a number of pages to view but no information.

It is as simple as it can be: you registered twice. Your should use your second registration as it gives you full access to all our files. You can also use this: http://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/profile.php?mode=register (just in case if you want to register once again).

Thanks Tina,
What a goof I feel like.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Hi Mark,
Just to confirm, there are 4 "Customer Only" downloads:
* Speed cameras
* Red light cameras
* Traffic cameras
* Speed and red light cameras
Can we assume then the following are not incorporated into any of the above files and we should only download these ones if we require them?
* Hook turns (for Melbourne CBD)
* Accident Black Spots
* Rest areas
Just a suggestion - perhaps there could be a separate folder or link for registered customers that could just list the essential POI and other POI that might be useful?
The way it is set up currently is just a bit confusing - after registering as a customer and trying to work out what to download and getting confused, then having to go to the forum to find what others have done (and found this post!).
I also came across a post with voice alerts for Traffic, Speed and Red Light cameras - do you know if this is useful?
Thanks.

Thanks. I did find that link (eventually) when I was looking around the forum after I subscribed (found right at the end of the forum in the "Download zone - subscription service" heading - maybe it could be placed right at the top instead, above the "GPS devices, software and free POI files" heading??).
With my suggestion, I actually meant for the separate folder/link to be placed on the "GPS POI for Australia" Safety webpage [http://www.gps-data-team.com/poi/australia/safety/index.php], rather than in the forum, so that it doesn't confuse the subscribed customers. It's my first time owning a GPS and I wanted to make sure that I had all the correct speed/red light/fixed cameras installed and as there were so many listed, it was quite confusing.
The 4 Customer Only downloads I listed in my earlier post were from your link, but I was also asking whether the other files (hook turns, accident black spots and rest areas) are already included in this list or whether it should be downloaded separately?
One last thing - is there a "suggestions box" where we can contribute some ideas/feedback on your website? Having spent half my morning on your website searching for and downloading POIs and browsing through the forum/posts, I have some feedback I'd like to contribute to see if you can simplify some processes or include additional information/instructions with downloading, some of my above comments and so on...
