I have a new 4GB SD Card for my TomTom One. I have formatted in FAT and FAT32 but the TomTom doesn't register on my PCV when inserted.

It works with the old card.

The new card isn't faulty as I can add anything to it via a card reader.

I have called TomTom Support who were useless!

I have also tried copying all the information from the old to the new card.

Nothing works. I'm desperate as I'm currently travelling and need to download new maps and POI's.

PLEASE HELP!!!

4GB SD are you sure? not a 4GB SDHC (High Capacity)?
TT pre x20 no support for SDHC only SD. On TT x20 only limited SDHC support.

ok a friend of mine had a simular issue there are 2 thing you need to check

1. on your pc open the folder that is the sd card ensure the files are in the root directory i.e dont have the files contained in another folder on the card.

If you have all the main files and folders in the root of the card and it still doesn't work try this.

2. In folder options of the cards folder ensure the show hidden files option is checked

if you follow both these directions correctly you should be on your way to wherever you tell the tom tom you want to go..

According to TomTom, the maximum SD card size that can be used with TomTom products is 2GB. I am not sure what size card came with your unit, but I inquired about the max. size and 2GB is it. If your original size is 1GB, try a 2GB and see if that works.

What do you mean "One program"

Would you be able to describe each step.

You have to have a back up of your Tomtom without the SD card in place...

Hook it up to the PC (no SD card) and use windows to look at the file structure on the TomTOm... make sure all hidden files are displayed too (tick options in file view). Then copy all these with their folders to a back up area on your PC
Alternatively use TOtom home to do the backup.

Then take tomtom off PC turn off, put in blank Sd card and turn on - nothing happens! but hook it up to your PC anyway and the computer should now see it as removable media.... then copy all the previous files back to it... and after that it should boot up when you swith off , and then back on.
Or else you just tell Tomtom home to "restore" and you will ahve the same effect...

Why the effing idiots at Tom tom can't tell people this is beyond me!

Worked for me after much teeth grinding trying to figure out why the effing thing would not fire up!

Dear Rick,

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support. My name is Shellie and it is my goal to provide you with an exceptional customer experience.

We are happy to explain how an SD card works in your ONE XL. The SD card must be a 2.0 GB standard card. You must download a map, an application and a voice on the card or you will get a red X. The unit will read either the SD card or the internal memory, not both.

If you have any further questions or comments, please call TomTom at +1 866 486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM EST. Thanks again for writing. At TomTom we believe in showing you the way the easy way.

With Best Regards,

Shellie and The TomTom Customer Support Team

I want to ad an sd card to my system. Following the instructions, I turn the device on and insert the sd card. The device reboots and when it turns on it displays an animation of the sd card being removed from the device with a red x on the icon.

I've tried 3 different sd cards. I have verified they are not write protected. Please help.

2 things that I have found important, is do not use high capacity sd cards as there is a problem with tomtom seeing them. and the other is when U want to make a backup thru windows rather than the home software, make sure u show hidden files before u do. For ease of instruction copy and paste is the best way to copy the files.
